Ebb and flow.

So, some good things some bad have been happening in the past months. First, the bad: my computer is sick and has many images on it. Please bear with me while I cobble together some updates and take new pictures as much as possible.

Magazine submission: Last fall I entered a late call from a literary magazine for cover submissions. I didn’t make the cut but enjoyed making this piece which is mostly acrylic and ink on paper.

A couple of friends of mine publish a cool ‘zine about terrible movies a couple of times a year(see/purchase here). In the latest issue, I made a couple of illustrations for a hilarious article about Gigli.

Ah, good times.

Here are two pieces I made for some friends’ apartment. The first piece is gesso, charcoal, acrylic, and ink on paper. The diptych is spray paint, markers, acrylic, ink, gesso, and gouache on heavy matte board.

An old canvas I started a couple of years ago is making a comeback. Here are a few steps and I have more progress to post soon.

Over New Year’s Eve, I helped The Grey Market with an installation as part of a show to ring in 2010. We converted a dance studio into a new enviroment.

Take care, I’ll post more as I find/recover/make it!

Show at Abigail Cafe.

For 6 weeks this winter/early spring, I showed a collection of 21 pieces at Abigail Cafe in Brooklyn, a young, local eatery right near my apartment that features yummy food and drink, special events, and a nice laid-back atmosphere.

The show is over now, but the memories live on in the form of pictures and actual memories for those who saw the show.  I  was happy to be involved with a new hot-spot in my community, and was rewarded by selling a few pieces.

A small gallery of the show in the cafe is right after the jump…

SFOS2

This weekend was the aforementioned SFOS2, organized and part-hosted by Suzanne Boatenreiter. It was a great time, lots of good artists, music, BBQ, the works. For those of you who missed it, here are a few pictures(there are some on the website as well). Here’s a panoramic shot of the roof I compiled right before sundown. It was a perfect evening(click on the picture for a larger view).

The non-sculpture art was set up in apartments in the 6-story building under the roof-party. It was open-studio style with a few artists in each apartment. I was in this one, it was really nice!

I set up my pieces in a room with a video installation. You may recognize the pieces from other parts of my site here, here, and here.

Until next year, thanks SFOS!

Beer labels for the Rossway wedding.

This weekend past, two of my friends were joined in holy matrimony. For part of the festivities, the groom home-brewed 250 beers and asked me to make some labels. The weekend was a lot of fun, and lots of the other guests helped cut out and apply all the stickers the night before the big day. Congrats to Jon and Charlotte!

The original pics were from a trip they took to Guatemala. The Pale Fire pic is inspired by the Sega game Pitfall. Oh yeah, the beer is also very tasty. Good work brewmaster Jon.

Some Drawings

These pieces are acrylic, latex paint, and ink. Some have mono-printed elements. Two sets of 3 drawings on gessoed watercolor squares, one set of two long drawings on printmaking paper and one mono-print with drawing and painting on top. Enjoy!

New Painting

I just started this new painting. Its starting point is based on a series of graphite sketches. The medium is black and silver acrylic paint on gessoed canvass. Details pending.

Moleskins for Jamie

Jamie stopped by on my birthday and I appreciate that. He had just bought some new moleskins for copious noting and I returned the favor of his visit(and excellent bday gift) by doing some quick decorations

Watch here soon for your chance to get limited-edition, one-of-a-kind sketchbooks hand-decorated by yours-truly!

Drawing in progress 1: 2 Panels

This is a 2-panel piece done in mixed media. It started as a study and expanded. I worked on it before I started tracking the steps of some of the other new pieces. It still needs some work but is pretty close to completion.

The Panels together

The surfaces are two 16 X 24 in. frame-backings. My old house mate, Miles Halpern worked at a frame shop and used to bring home extra materials.
