This is another surface-specific group show that I participated in. This time: skateboards.
lots more after the jump.
I got a good used board and decided to do an image I’ve been haunted by recently: a ghost ship sailing under under stormy clouds in an silver/emerald sea
These are studies.
Here’s the board in step 1.
Clouds and plankton added.
The finished deck. I decided to do two ghost ships racing. The piece is mixed media and called: Ghost Ship Regatta.
Detail of one ship
Here it is in the Reciprocal skate shop. It will be up until July 20th. There are some really good other painted decks in the show if you’re cruising by the corner of 11th and 1st ave.

What medium is the red ghost ship in your top drawing on paper? Pastel? That is my favorite one. Has a gritty and more wild look to it.

The red is brushed ink on watercolor paper, grey and green acrylic. I also like that one a lot, it was done very quickly and has good energy, I think its not as effective on the skateboard, it feels too refined. I’m working on a ghost-ship intaglio print that is very precise. If that doesn’t come out well I’ll probably go back to wilder, more gestural ghost ships.
